FINALLY! Facebook will soon Allow Group Admins to "Mute Members" for upto 28 Days!

Not many people would admit it but Facebook actually deserves credit for attempting to make its platform safe and healthy for users. While it still has a long way to go, the steps it is making are surely commendable. Recently, it was reported that the social media giant would be rolling out certain options that would make things easy for Group Admins!

According to renowned social media consultant Matt Navarra, Facebook is all set to introduce longer mute member options for Group Admins. As of now (and if you administer a group), you can only mute a member for up to 7 days. However, if everything goes according to the plan, you will soon be able to mute members for 14 and even 28 days!

In case you are concerned about what will happen to the previous options (12 hours, 24 hours, 3 days, and 7 days), those will continue to exist. Navarra also attached a screenshot with his tweet that gives us a glimpse of how the mute feature will look like in the near future.

Members who are muted by a Group Admin can still view the said group. However, they are unable to comment, post or initiate any other action while they are muted.

In case you are unaware, here are two ways for Group Admins to mute members temporarily:

Go to your group > Select “Members” > Locate the user you want to mute > Select the three-dotted icon (...) > Hit “Mute Member” > Choose the mute period > Click/Tap “Mute”.

Go to your group > Find a post or comment made by the member you want to mute > Hit the three-dotted icon (...) > Select “Mute Member” > Choose the mute period > Click/Tap “Mute”.

As of now, there’s no word regarding when the new mute options will be available. However, Navarra’s tweet indicates that the change isn’t that far off. We totally expect the Group Admins’ jobs to become easier with the rollout of these options!

  1. Is there a way to see members who are muted or once the time is passed do they automatically become unmuted or does the admin need to physically unmute?
