Google is rolling out several new Android TV features specifically meant to help users with data consumption problems

Recently Google revealed some new insight on soon to be launched feature especially meant to help save data for users with Android TVs. According Joris van Mens, Product Manager, Google will be launching a new set of feature for its Android TVs to help improve the experience for users who completely rely on mobile hotspots to connect their TVs with the internet. Google’s team of Next Billion Users will be launching these new features and it will be released in India first and then in other countries.

Google addressed the issues faced by its users living where the TVs are not connected to the internet through Wi-Fi or Wired connections. So users of these countries rely on mobile hotspots to connect their phone devices with TVs. Watching HD TV on mobile data connection cannot just only drain the mobile battery but also quickly consumes all of user daily data plan. So before its launch of a new feature, Google identified these problems to help reduce it with its new features.

Google will be launching a feature named ‘Data saver’ to help reduce the data usage on mobile connections three times less than the actual data consumption so, with this new feature, users would be enabled to watch more content on their TVs with less data consumption. Google will also be releasing ‘data alerts’ feature for its Android TV users to help them know about their data consumption before the data ends.

Another new soon to be launched feature called ‘hotspot guide’ will give access to users to set their TV according to their mobile hotspot. Lastly, as revealed by our sources Google will be launching a new feature for Files app to allow users to display TV video files locally stored in the cell phones without the usage of data at all. The Files app that was launched two years ago has gained more than 100 million users and according to Google, this new feature would help users with data consumption problems ease up.

The Television devices manufactured by Xiaomi, TCL, and Marq by Flipkart will be given access to these new features by Google and the features are also expected to roll out globally as well.

Recently, at an event in Bangalore, the TV manufacturing company revealed its new series of TVs supporting Netflix and Prime Video. This top smartphone vendor electronics giant also confirmed its collaboration with Google to support the new Data Saver feature.

In an event happening later this week in India, Google is expected to reveal a number of announcements related to its new features about its payments app and other services as well. The release of insight on the workings by Google might also reveal the launch of Kormo, a job-discovery app that is currently rolled out to selected developing markets in India.
