Facebook seeks blood bank updates

Undoubtedly, Facebook is one of the most popular community-based social media platforms that constantly encourage its users to partake in different humanitarian programs.

Recently, Facebook initiated the blood donation program that enabled users to sign up as blood donors and be notified when nearby blood banks and hospitals require donations. The feature also allowed users and organizations to create events for blood donation camps and share other useful information with the general public.

According to a Tweet by an app researcher Jane Manchun Wong, Facebook it seems is adding more functionality to the feature by seeking blood bank updates from the users and relevant groups. The updated feature will make blood donations more accessible in global areas where there is a scarcity of blood donors or enhanced need for donations.

Although the feature is not fully rolled out yet, Wong’s tweet indicates that the ‘update form’ requires general information about blood banks including location and phone number.

Amidst the mockery targeted at Mark Zuckerberg and his attempts to gather information about user’s blood group – most Twitteratis were happy with the initiative and admired the social media giant’s efforts in assisting those in need.

Facebook’s blood donation feature is one of the highlighted ventures of the company. Till date, more than 8 million people have signed up for the service that is available in many areas of the world including India and Pakistan.

Have you signed up yet for the blood donor service? What do you think about the initiative? Let us know in the comments below!
