WhatsApp Ends Service for Nokia S40

The Nokia S40 operating system (OS) was used in a wide variety of mid tier Nokia phones. These phones allowed people to stay connected while using a pretty old school user interface as well as saving a fair amount of money because of the fact that these phones tended to be quite cheap. However, most people have stopped using this OS as well as the phones associated with this OS, and in light of that WhatsApp has stopped providing its services to the OS. What this means is that if you are using a phone that runs Nokia S40, you are not going to be able to use WhatsApp anymore.

This OS has been added to the increasingly long list of older operating systems that are no longer supported by WhatsApp. The instant messaging platform is cleaning up shop and streamlining, and supporting old operating systems that people don’t really use that much anymore is an unnecessary expense that needs to be ended in order to make the service as efficient as possible. The great thing about this is that it will allow the instant messaging platform to save money that will be invested in improvement and development.

WhatsApp plans to continue ending support for rarely used operating systems throughout this year. Older versions of Android as well as iOS are no longer going to be supported by 2020.
"You won't be able to use WhatsApp on the following platforms for:
• S40 after December 31, 2018
• Android versions 2.3.7 and older after February 1, 2020
• iPhone iOS 7 and older after February 1, 2020
Note: Because we will no longer actively develop for these platforms, some features may stop functioning at any time.", announced Whatsapp team in a blog post.
Older operating systems aren’t really that useful because of the fact that even the cheapest phones manage to run a reasonably recent version of the operating systems that are currently available, so the only people that are using these extremely old operating systems are people that just haven’t updated their device for some reason. WhatsApp’s next few updates are probably going to bid goodbye to some of the oldest operating systems.
