How Many Daily Views Are YouTube Shorts Now Generating Worldwide? 200 Billion, Says CEO

YouTube is now drawing an astonishing two hundred billion views every single day from its Shorts format. This figure, shared during a recent event in Cannes, comes as the platform faces rising pressure from social media rivals and marks its twentieth year online. Although short videos have taken over screens worldwide, YouTube seems determined to stay in the race by evolving beyond mobile content.

Instead of keeping everything on small screens, the company has noticed that more people are turning to televisions. In fact, a large portion of its most popular channels now find the majority of their audience watching through TV screens. This shift is quietly changing how content is made and viewed. Watching on a television changes expectations, and many creators are adjusting their approach to suit a much larger canvas. Each day, people around the world are spending more than a billion hours watching YouTube this way.

At the same time, the company is doubling down on artificial intelligence. It is preparing to offer creators access to a powerful new tool, developed with help from Google’s DeepMind team. The tool, named Veo 3, will allow users to generate video scenes using AI, building on earlier experiments like the Dream Screen feature. The move signals a deeper commitment to integrating generative technology into everyday content creation.

Language translation is another area where YouTube has been active. In the past six months, its Auto Dubbing tool has been used across more than twenty million videos. It currently supports nine languages, and eleven more are expected soon. With these tools, creators are being given more ways to speak to global audiences without starting from scratch each time.

Competition, however, remains strong. TikTok, with its built-in momentum and cultural influence, continues to dominate the short-video conversation. Instagram’s Reels, backed by Meta, is also pressing ahead with new creative tools. YouTube, while still leading in total viewing hours, is clearly working to keep its position secure by widening the scope of what it offers.

This gradual shift towards high-quality production and large-screen viewing hints at something more than just a platform update. It suggests a redefinition of what YouTube wants to be. After two decades of mostly amateur uploads and mobile-first thinking, the company is laying the groundwork for a future shaped by studio-style creativity, powered by AI, and watched on the biggest screen in the house.
