Edit Your Video by Editing the Words: Microsoft Adds Transcript Tool to Clipchamp

Microsoft has added a new way to cut and clean up videos in Clipchamp, its online editing tool. The latest feature lets users remove parts of a video by deleting lines from an automatically AI generated transcript, making the process simpler for content with a lot of speech.

Instead of scrubbing through a timeline, editors can now work directly with text. Once a transcript is created, users can highlight sections of dialogue they don’t want, such as off-topic discussion or long pauses, and remove them in one step. The video then updates to reflect those cuts.

The new method is aimed at people who often edit recordings of meetings, webinars, podcasts, and other spoken content. It’s designed to save time and make editing more accessible, especially when working with longer clips.
To use it, editors open a video in Clipchamp and go to the new “Transcript” tab. From there, they generate a transcript, then delete lines of text they wish to cut. The tool handles the rest in the background.

The Transcript tab has now taken the place of the old Captions tab, although options for editing and downloading captions remain available through the menu.

This update is being rolled out first to users with work accounts. Microsoft says access for personal users will follow soon.

Earlier this year, the company announced several improvements for Clipchamp, including new editing modes, better grouping tools, and a clearer layout. Some of those have already reached users, as Clipchamp continues to evolve into a more capable platform for everyday video editing.
