Graphic Designers and Content Creators See Profitable Freelance Careers, US and Australia Lead Pay Rates

A recent study from Adobe talks about rates of freelancers and content creators working in different geographical locations, which skills are in demand, and which pay the most. According to the study, graphic design and content creation have high profit jobs, with graphic designers having a $49.65 hourly rate and short-form content creation having a $50.62 hourly rate on average.

The annual salary of a freelance graphic designer is $92.5K and $94.3K for a freelance short-form content creator on average. One in four U.S.-based freelancers can also earn $100,000 and more annually, while only 20% do so in Australia. Freelance graphic designers earn the most in Australia while short-form content creators earn the highest in the US, while the freelancers in the UK charge comparatively lower rates.

The most common freelance graphic design skills that are in demand are logo design (40%), Adobe Illustrator (37%), Adobe Photoshop (35%) and Adobe InDesign (18%). On the other hand, TikTok (29%), Video Editing (23%), Content Creation (22%) and Adobe Premiere Pro (18%) are the most common in-demand skills for freelance short-form video creators.
There is also a small gender gap when it comes to rates for men and women who are freelancing as graphic designers or content creators. Women graphic designers tend to earn a bit higher ($51.12 hourly) than men graphic designers ($47.55) when it comes to freelancing. Similarly, the hourly rate for women short-form content creators is $53.88 on average while men get paid $46.38 on average hourly. Men in the US have 43 more jobs on average as compared to women on Upwork, while women working freelance in Australia have 4 more jobs on average than men. 24% of men and 26% of women on Upwork are earning more than $100,000 annually through freelancing.
