Google Steps Up Security for Android Password Managers By Adding a New ‘Delete All Data’ Option

In today’s modern world of tech, security and privacy are difficult to maintain. This is why password managers were created to ensure the most reliable means to preserve authentication.

Obviously, user security is the leading priority for such tools and that’s why Google is stepping up its safety for Android password managers. The company created a new Delete All Data feature that wipes out entire password databases if and when necessary. This means users can purge sensitive material in specific situations.

There are several reasons why one may choose to delete an entire log of passwords from the database. One of those is migration. Some people might wish to make the jump to another platform. It’s not a great practice to have all passwords jumbled up into several devices as it increases the risk of getting compromised. Moreover, purging data during migration is another simple way to make sure the risks are kept at a bare minimum.

As per reports from Android Authority, the tool is currently testing the latest delete all data feature. This would get rid of passwords and passkeys via the database. Right now, it all appears to be work in progress and we will have to wait to see how it appears after it gets enabled. There is a possibility that such features will arise through another future update on Google Play, but for now, we don’t know the timeline and if that will happen.

The latest offering will be shown in the options for the password manager and through the Settings tab. It will need confirmation before data gets removed, and such popups will give users an estimate about the number of passwords and passkeys that are getting extinct. The change will also delete the site registry when the user clicks on no for saving passwords.

The news comes as an alternative to getting rid of passwords as a single entity, which is obvious, tiresome, and time-consuming. That’s very true when you have hundreds stored in one place. Moreover, the feature is also more likely to transform Google’s Password Manager into a more capable entity for use. After all, it’s many people’s go-to option for passwords.
