BlueSky is gaining more and more users everyday who are in search of alternatives to X and a study by researchers from Technische Universitat Darmstadt talks more about this platform. We all know that many users of X are leaving the platform either because they don't like this new version of Twitter or because of protests against Elon Musk. The researchers wanted to study more about BlueSky to know how this platform operates and what are some features in it which are better than X. At first glance, the researchers found that even though BlueSky seems like a copy of X, it offers more functionality. The principles and architectures of the platform are also way different than X and BlueSky works on the basis of transparency, even distribution of power, openness and participation.
The users of BlueSky also have more control over their data and they can manage what data they want to display to the platform. Users also have freedom to choose from thousands of other feeds created by other users if they get bored of their own feed on BlueSky. BlueSky also offers more freedom for moderation and the components of BlueSky are all available as open source which means that users can operate them however they want. Even if a user isn't an expert in tech, they can easily know the social network of the platform and many users are already using this freedom wisely in moderation and recommendation of content.
X doesn't let anyone access their data so BlueSky seems like a paradise for users as well as researchers. Even though there are many positive points of BlueSky, there are some negatives too like misuse of open data or no one having the proper rights to content. BlueSky is seeing a lot of growth but it does have any ads, so financial security of the platform is also questionable.
