Meta Platforms To Allow Rival Classified Ads Service Providers to Post Listings on Facebook Marketplace

In a shocking turn of events, Meta Platforms has given permission to rival classified ad service providers the chance to publish listings of ads on the Facebook Marketplace.

The firm shared the news yesterday, which is exactly three months after it was slammed with a staggering 797M euro antitrust fine. This was regarding providing services at an unfair advantage.

The EC said the American tech giant rolled out the most unfair trading clauses on rivals and also tied the company’s marketplace to various social network apps like Facebook in breach of the EU antitrust regulations.

It referred to this as the Facebook Marketplace Partner initiative. On that note, Meta says the scheme is a direct reply to the competition regulators in the EU as it battles the lawsuit on the issue in court.

The response was a direct reflection of the comments made by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. He said that the reply by the EU serves as another great example for the EU and it directly targets American firms in a manner that is in line with the tax regime.

Meta was already experimenting with this partner scheme in Germany and France as well as the US through eBay. The latest program means that third-party companies would be able to list the consumer-to-consumer inventory through Facebook’s marketplace.

Such an inventory will show up side by side with other third parties and user listings of the app. As per the Commission, it was going to assess if Meta was in full compliance with the rulings done in November.
