Apple recently shared its iPhone 16e budget phone but many are far from impressed at what’s on offer.
The company’s latest offering iPhone 16e comes at a pricey $599 and many are having an issue with that as it’s far from budget-friendly. The fact that it’s a successor to the previous iPhone SE that cost users $429.
While we do agree that it’s nearly $200 cheaper than the usual vanilla iPhone 16 device, there are a lot of things many had wished for that they’re not getting. Yes, it comes embedded with the A18 chip that provides support for the Apple Intelligence. However, it’s far from small, and seeing it come at this price tag is not amusing.
There’s a bigger OLED screen and features the latest hardware including the first C1 modem. Specs link it to be far closer to the iPhone 16 than any third-generation SE which was linked to the iPhone 13.
We need to argue that Apple didn’t need to add all those extravagant features and raise prices. Costs could have been easily reduced without the above but what’s even more shocking is how important and cheaper features like wireless fast charging are missing and so is MagSafe. Probably they could have traded off the OLED display screen with this.
We do love the new A18 chip and complete support for Apple Intelligence, but many don’t really need or want the AI brilliance. In fact, the high cost is linked to this only. Apple has been working to prove to the world that it’s not far behind other archrivals in the AI race.
Many hoped that Apple would launch another smaller phone that was below $500 so it could be within budget but again that’s not the case. So that dream might no longer exist and your options for smaller or budget-friendly devices are dying down with time.
Our biggest fear is how the upcoming iPhone 17e might be in the $850 to $900 and with time, even that would rise in costs. Some feel they might be better off than just picking up another refurbished iPhone device. A good place to check for listings is Amazon for phones below a certain price range.
