Global smartphone sales had been declining for some time but now they have started recovering, mostly because of generative AI, Android brands enhancing their global presence. Many of the Chinese smartphone brands have made a mark on emerging markets overseas. This has made them resistant to fluctuations and they are surpassing domestic figures.
Taking OPPO as an example, it has invested in seven countries– Turkey, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Egypt and Brazil which has established its overseas manufacturing presence. OPPO also has internet browsing services worldwide with its monthly active users reaching 700 million. It's overseas browser app has 210 million monthly active users while its overseas app store has 260 million monthly active users.
Chinese Android brands are also expanding to premium segments globally with smartphones offering 5G network, GenAI applications and improved hardware like memory and chipsets. It is expected that China will remain the largest premium market for smartphones, followed by North America and then Western Europe. There are also some other markets that are seeing fast growth like the Middle East and India. If Chinese OEMs want to remain at the top, they'll need to expand their premium segments.
In China’s segment which is over $600, Apple has 60% share but other brands like OPPO, Xiaomi and HONOR are also improving their flagship product lines with some high-quality features. Global customers of Chinese premium smartphones will benefit from countless features like Gen-AI and advanced imaging systems. Chinese smartphone companies are trying to give more choices to customers other than Samsung and Apple.
Chinese smartphone brands are trying hard to bring many innovations in the smartphone market so they can stay relevant in the domestic as well as overseas market. Adding more high-quality features in their smartphones is certainly helping Chinese smartphone OEMs.
