ChatGPT Sees 10% Dip in Usage, Could the Trend Be Fading Away?

When ChatGPT first launched, it became the fastest consumer tech product to reach a hundred million users with all things having been considered and taken into account. In spite of the fact that this is the case, its user base has declined by as much as 9.8%, with a 5.7% decrease registered in the month of June alone.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that users are also spending less time on the website. An 8.5% decrease in time spent on the service was registered in the past few months, which casts some doubts on ChatGPT’s potential to eclipse Google as the most visited website in the world.

However, one thing that bears mentioning is that ChatGPT is still beating out other services like Bing. The second most popular chatbot out there is called Character.AI, and it has seen a whopping 32% decline month over month.

These numbers are concerning because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up taking a lot of the momentum out of the industry. Regardless, these services still have exponentially more users than they did a year prior, which makes its chances of becoming commonplace far more robust than might have been the case otherwise.

Google’s answer to ChatGPT, Bard, turned out to perform the worst of all. It barely registered any user growth in this time period, allowing ChatGPT to maintain its comfortable lead despite the 10% decline.

Over in the US, ChatGPT didn’t see quite the same level of growth as it did in other parts of the world. Still, usage decreased by 10.1% in this region, and a similar trend can be seen around the globe as well.

It will be interesting to see how the industry responds to these pressures. As the technology continues to become increasingly advanced, we might start to see more positive momentum in terms of user growth, but that will only come once the next ChatGPT update is rolled out by its parent company, OpenAI.
