Nearly 400K People In The US Alone Have Jobs Thanks to YouTube’s Creator Ecosystem

Becoming a content creator on YouTube used to be seen as a bit of a risky move, but in spite of the fact that this is the case, it has become a viable career path in the recent past. A new study that was recently published by Oxford Economics revealed that just under 400K people, or 390,000 to be precise, have the equivalent of full time jobs by creating content that is meant exclusively for YouTube.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that these jobs generate a grand total of $35 billion for the Gross Domestic Product of the US. Between 2018 and 2020, there was a whopping 207% increase in the number of people that cited creator, influencer or a similar type of job as their primary occupation on their tax forms according to TurboTax which included this study in their report.

While certain other platforms like Twitch and recently TikTok have given YouTube a run for its money, the Google owned video sharing platform is still the biggest place for people to post their content. It also turns out that YouTube is the most popular streaming platform in the world with all things having been considered and taken into account.

Premium streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+ saw their numbers stagnate last month, but YouTube managed to up its viewing numbers by 1.5% in the same time period. What’s more, around 8.1% of the time that people spend watching TV went solely towards YouTube.

This lends credence to the notion that it is fast becoming a hub for content that countless people rely on for their entertainment needs. By comparison, cable TV channels along with broadcast networks saw viewership drop by 1.9% between the months of March and April.

One thing that bears mentioning is that around half of all YouTube content is viewed on TVs rather than on computers and smartphones. This has allowed content creators to create high grade content because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up enabling their work to be viewed in all of its grandeur.

There was a 15% increase in the number of YouTube channels that had over a million subscribers in 2022, along with a 5% increase in YouTube channels that brought in over $100,00 in revenue on an annual basis.

What makes YouTube so attractive is that it gives creators the chance to cater to niches or go for mass appeal if that is more their game. With stars like Mr. Beast enjoying massive crossover appeal, most are predicting that YouTube will become even bigger down the line as creators that focus on the platform become genuine celebrities rather than being seen as minor celebrities like in the past.

Mr. Beast is by no means a YouTube veteran, since he only started posting on the platform in the last five years. This just goes to show that you don’t need an early start to find success on YouTube, since new creators have been managing to get ahead despite their relative lack of experience and they have gone on to dominate the platform.
