99% of Cybersecurity Pros Are Worried About Email Security

Emails can be a highly useful way to communicate with people, but in spite of the fact that this is the case they also tend to be especially dangerous from a cybersecurity point of view. It turns out that emails are a popular way for malicious actors to infect systems with all sorts of malware, and it is therefore a prime concern for 99% of people working in the cybersecurity field with all things having been considered and taken into account.

A company by the name of Egress just put out a report that highlighted the concerns of professionals whose main focus is in the field of cybersecurity. It turns out that 98% of the professionals who responded to this survey cited Secure Email Gateway as a prime source of frustration because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up allowing dangerous emails through.

53% of these cybersecurity industry leaders said that Secure Email Gateway is very bad at preventing phishing emails from slipping through. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that malicious actors are also constantly upgrading their methodologies, and that means that the problem could get even worse before too long.

86% of companies that were surveyed in this report said that they fell victims to phishing attacks. That just goes to show that email security often goes hand in hand with overall cybersecurity. If you felt like SEG would be enough to keep phishing emails at bay, a majority of people who specialize in the field of cybersecurity would beg to differ.

It is essential to use multiple security barriers. That way, if a malicious actor breaks through one of them, there will still be many more left behind that can put up a decent fight. 40% of organizations lost employees due to phishing, and 54% admitted that these attacks ended up incurring a financial loss for them. It is high time that email security started getting taken seriously both among organizations as well as among consumers that are unaware.
