A new report from Secure Data Recovery found numerous states in the US that are really poor performers on the cybersecurity front, with residents of these states failing to adopt necessary measures that would protect them.

The people of New York got a dismal 50.3 out of a 100 points, and they were followed by Nebraska with 50.4 points, Oregon with 50.8 points, Minnesota with 51.3 points and West Virginia with 51.8 points.
Surprisingly, the state that got the highest score out of all in the US was Kentucky. The score for people in Kentucky was about 61.1, and that is all thanks to their diligent habits pertaining to data backups and password hygiene with all things having been considered and taken into account.
The highest weightage for these points was given to data backups, since this can make hacking attempts less threatening than might have been the case otherwise. Password hygiene was also an important thing to consider, as was taking basic precautions to prevent hacking.
Even though Kentucky scored the highest, it still only managed to get 61.1. Such low scores are risky because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up exposing users to a wide array of cyberattacks.
Suffering from a cyberattack can lead to victims losing access to their financial accounts. It can also result in identity fraud as well as countless other negative impacts that can take a long time to get over. More work needs to be done to educate people about basic things that they can do to keep themselves safe while they are going about their online business.
