What Do People Really Search For Online And Why? New Survey Highlights Top Ten Secret Search Topics

The internet has made it so much easier for us to search for anything and everything.

You can turn to any search engine and not feel worried about being judged. At the same time, you’re going to be assured that your queries are kept undercover and well away from those you know.

A lot of us put so much dependence on making online searches that it’s really hard to think about what the world would be like without search engines. But what exactly do people search for in today’s era? What are the secret trending topics that commonly make their way on search engines?

Well, it’s all thanks to a new survey that we’re getting some new updates on what people are asking, why they're asking, and if they’re worried about others finding out.

Thanks to Expressvpn we finally know what it is that has Brits glued to search engines the most and why.

The survey featured around 2000 adults from the United Kingdom. For starters, the survey asked respondents about how frequently they search for answers on a daily basis for simple routine questions. While some queries were downright embarrassing, others weren’t as much. Similarly, the research asked what users’ motivations for making such queries were in the first place too.

On average, around 50% of those taking part in the survey mentioned how they wouldn’t be able to get through a week without resorting to the web for answers to their questions. Yes, that just goes to show how dependent they are.

Meanwhile, nearly 68% of those who responded to the survey said they feel so much more comfortable with the web to have their queries answered, as compared to resorting to friends for the same ordeal.

A lot of this stands true for the simple fact that it’s just so much more convenient. At the same time, the great accuracy attached to Google happens to be another leading factor that has so many in awe most of the time.

After all, it’s just much more convenient to check the weather conditions or the directions to your next café instead of asking your friend or loved one. And in case you didn’t know, these are the top two most asked things on the web.

In third place, correct meanings for certain terms and weight/height conversions happened to be another reason why people commonly resorted to the internet for help. Tips for medical illnesses came fifth, closely followed by financial advice.

Next up, cures for sickness, recipes, and the best places to dine came up while public holiday dates managed to just enter at the end.

Whatever the case may be, one of the biggest reasons for making searches online has to do with the impersonal factor attached. Around 21% of respondents confidently mentioned how the subject being inquired about was one they didn’t feel at ease sharing with those they knew.

Of those, 18% felt the subject of discussion was just too embarrassing such as those related to a particular illness. It makes sense, you don’t want people laughing at you for overthinking because let’s face it, we all do!

Do users trust search engines like Google more than they do their inner circle of friends or loved ones? Well, according to the survey, 35% do believe so while 45% disagreed.

Meanwhile, another interesting point worth a mention has to do with how nearly half of those surveyed felt the need to alter their web connection if they felt their search history would now be public.

Next, people were asked if they were concerned about firms knowing too much about them based on their search queries. And shockingly, 19% claim to be extremely worried. Meanwhile, 43% said they were very worried while 28% said they weren’t too worried. 11% said they were not worried at all about this concern.
