WhatsApp Expands Reactions and Improves Them for Automated Albums

WhatsApp has been incorporating social media-esque features for quite some time now because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up allowing it to continue to thrive despite the negative publicity surrounding its parent company Meta. Even back when Meta was still known as Facebook, it was incorporating as many social media related features into WhatsApp as possible, partly in an attempt to genericize unique features offered by up and coming competitors such as Snapchat.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that a recent WhatsApp beta that was spotted suggests that the messaging app might be rolling out new and better ways to react to automated photo albums. When you send someone a series of media files, WhatsApp compiles them into an album. That restricts the amount of scroll space they would take up, but in spite of the fact that this is the case it makes it hard to use the react feature that has become so popular on the messaging app.

If you like a specific picture or react to it in any other way, it will show up as a react on the album itself. However, with this new update users will be able to see what specific photo was interacted with. Users will no longer have to open the entire album to see the picture that received a reaction, and that can make it easier to communicate about the media as well.

WhatsApp has taken its sweet time bringing the message react feature to Android phones, but it seems likely that the instant messaging juggernaut is trying to add more features into the update to give it more of an impact with all things having been considered and taken into account. It will be interesting to see what this update looks like when it finally gets rolled out, because it will likely be a part of a larger upgrade to the platform itself. It remains to be seen when the wider rollout will be initiated.
