Here’s How Twitter’s 2022 Global Trends Reflect People’s Thoughts and Concerns

Twitter has become a place where millions upon millions of people go to share their thoughts, so if you want to get a good enough idea about the various things that people might be concerned about or are thinking about this is the platform that you should observe. Although 2022 just started a couple of months ago, Twitter has already noted a few trends that could come in handy if you want to determine the mindset of the common person these days.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that this report doesn’t just include tweets from 2022 itself. Quite on the contrary, Twitter scoured the numerous tweets that were posted on the platform between 2019 and 2021 and it has compiled all of them into a single resource that you can go and check out. One thing to bear in mind is that Twitter has broken down major trends into three separate categories with many if not most tweets conforming to these groupings.

The first group of trends that Twitter noted down was that of The Great Restoration. This refers to a new era that is just starting to emerge in the post pandemic world with all things having been considered and taken into account. The pandemic brought most global processes to a grinding halt for an extended duration of time, and this has resulted in a 64% increase in tweets with words like restoration and rebuilding with many individuals looking forward to putting this pandemic behind them.

There has also been a 158% increase in the term greenwashing. This is used to discuss corporations that try to hide the level of environmental destruction that they are behind by using ostensibly environmentally friendly practices that don’t do a whole lot to reduce the damage that they are causing in the first place. The Great Restoration is clearly not just about the economy, but rather it is the byproduct of people starting to realize how fragile the planet can be if it’s not taken good care of.

Fan built worlds are also another major trend that you can learn about in this report. Fan tokens, a type of crypto that celebrities put out in order to engage with their fans, were mentioned 994% more often than was previously the case which is interesting because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up changing the landscape of celebrity and fan interactions in the coming years. There has also been a 54% increase in the use of the term stanning which shows just how deep the appreciation of celebrities goes from their fans.

Finance Goes Social is the final grouping of trends that Twitter has incorporated into this report. People have become a great deal more interested in things like personal finance and there has been a 78% year on year increase in finance related terminology so far. Other topics like DeFi and stablecoins have also been mentioned more often, seeing a 242% increase or perhaps even more depending on how you look at the term. All of these trends are essential when trying to understand the psyche of social media users. Take a look at below charts for more insights:
