Apple Dominates the Smartwatch Market with over 51.4 Percent Revenue Share!

As per Counterpoint’s recent findings, Apple Watch retains its position as the leading smartwatch, occupying nearly 51.4% of the market share. This means that Apple has recorded year-over-year growth of a whopping 43.2%. Pretty good improvement at a time when the demand for smartwatches is going up with every passing day.

As per Counterpoint analyst Sujeong Lim, Apple enjoys a hefty presence in the smartwatch market in terms of both volume and value. While Apple has already brought in over half of the revenue for the smartwatch market, thanks to people going crazy for the Apple Watch S5 models, Apple Watch recorded a 22% global growth in terms of shipment volumes with Europe and North America leading the way.

In the first six months of 2020, Apple Watch Series 5 and Series 3 emerged as the top two selling smartwatches, followed by Huawei Watch GT2, Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2, and the Imoo Z3 4G respectively.

Researches also shed light on how numerous companies have started investing in the aforementioned market including Suunto, and TicWatch. It is also interesting to note that Google’s Wear OS currently occupies only 10% of the smartwatch market.

Counterpoint Research Director Jeff Fieldhack stated that Huawei’s Lite OS and Amazfit’s Amazfit OS are on an upward trajectory. He brought up that over 25% of the smartwatches shipped are cellular-capable.

Fieldhack also mentioned the importance of heart rate monitoring and how it’s being featured in almost 6 out of every 10 smartwatches.

Other features that are growing in popularity include Fall detection and SPO2. Additionally, Square form-factor is a part of over 60% of the smartwatches across the globe, since it has proven to be vital for fitting extra sensors and essential battery footprint.

In case you are unaware, Apple is in line to launch a new Apple Watch later this year, in addition to watchOS 7 arriving with iOS 14.
