Teenagers Prefer YouTube Over Facebook: Report

The latest research conducted by Pew Research Center has revealed that as many as 85% of the teenagers (aged between 13-17) give preference to YouTube in comparison to Instagram (72%) and Snapchat (69%). It has been revealed that the most of the teenagers do not adore using Facebook anymore.

It is pertinent to mention that PEW’s report in 2015 did not have YouTube in it. Three years ago, PEW reported that 71% of the teens opt for Facebook. However, the number has dropped drastically after three years to 51% today.

Another striking revelation in the report was that 95% of the teens in 2018 have the access to smartphone or that they can own one in comparison to 73% back in 2015. Moreover, 45% of the teenagers are online for pretty much all the time.

PEW said in its report:

“There is no clear consensus among teens about the effect that social media has on the lives of young people today ... Given the opportunity to explain their views in their own words, teens who say social media has had a mostly positive effect tended to stress issues related to connectivity and connection with others”

The other side of the coin notifies that 32% of the teenagers use Twitter while Tumblr and Reddit is used by 9% and 7% users respectively. It is worth mentioning that although teenagers give preference to YouTube but they use Snapchat most often.
