Mobile internet use is rapidly increasing in Switzerland – and apps play a major part in this. Current figures show that 85% of those surveyed use a smartphone or tablet for mobile surfing – and more than half use their smartphone to access the internet more frequently than they do a desktop. The majority of time online is spent using apps – only 10% of it is spent in mobile browsers. As a result, targeted app marketing is becoming a critical factor for success, particularly for companies in the e-commerce industry. In 2015, global app sales already amounted to USD 70 billion, a number that is expected to rise to USD 189 billion by 2020.

But app marketing success requires more than just a pretty aesthetic and a user-friendly interface. App marketing success is based on five pillars:
  • App store optimization
  • App indexing
  • App promotion
  • App tracking
  • App re-engagement
Target groups can only be effectively reached and sustainably engaged when all these aspects are covered. In order to do this, marketers need to ask themselves various questions: How do I enhance the visibility of my app in the Google and Apple app stores among the relevant target groups? How can I reach my target groups on Google's mobile search results pages? What channels can I use to successfully advertise my app? What can I learn from my app users’ behavior? How do I encourage my users to use my app regularly?
