New Research from IBM Reveals Sustainability Trend in AI Adoption

AI is quite rapidly becoming a mainstay of business culture as it is being conducted around the world because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up improving efficiency across the board. While only 28% of corporations have a strategy for AI that could be deemed entirely holistic, 37% are currently working on coming up with these strategies so it is likely that AI adoption rates are about to shoot through the roof.

The pandemic likely had a hand to play in this increase in desire for AI among organizations, and according to research that IBM just published at a recent event, there is also a need for sustainability among new adopters of AI. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that there are some obstacles that can stop organizations from implementing the right kinds of AI protocols as well, starting off with a lack of expertise, excessive cost of acquisition, difficulties with integration and many more.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that these obstacles are just growing pains at this early stage of the AI race. Many brands and organizations are using AI primarily to help themselves run their businesses more sustainably with all things having been considered and taken into account. Around 66% of major organizations are using AI in this manner, attempting to reduce their carbon emissions and achieve other sustainability goals with the efficiency that AI allows them to enjoy.

In spite of the fact that this is the case, sustainability is not the only major contributing factor to increased rates of AI adoption among organizations. Around 37% of organizations are interested in AI simply because they want to improve general efficiency and productivity levels. 29% are also looking to use AI to automate the process of data collection which can be quite time consuming if actual human beings try to do it. Data collection in general seems to be a major reason for accelerating interest in AI, with 33% of organizations looking to use AI to acquire more objective and reliable data about their performance from an environmental standpoint.

Organizations have to make a lot of tough decisions as they are faced with a world that is descending ever deeper into a pit of environmental catastrophe. These decisions need to be made quickly, but that doesn’t mean that they can be made hastily. A lot of data needs to be acquired before these decisions can be made so that there is a reasonable level of surety that they are the right things to do.

AI can help with that thanks to the speed at which it can do calculations and analyses, and it will be interesting to see where things go from here. Chances are that AI will become ever more ubiquitous, possibly even becoming a crucial feature of normal day to day life for many people. Organizations already used AI to overcome labor shortages during the pandemic, and that is just a small example of the good that this tech can do for them.
