Adobe Is Discontinuing Its Photoshop Sketch And Illustrator Draw Applications Across The iOS And Android App Stores

Adobe has recently taken to it's website, informing customers that the Photoshop Sketch and Illustrator Draw applications will be removed from iOS and Android stores on the 19th of July, 2021.

This decision may come as a blow to many individuals in the art community. Whatever else may be said about Adobe, its product list consists of high-tier applications that both run smoothly and provide an extensive list of tools useful to both amateurs and professionals. The Photoshop Sketch and Illustrator Draw tools were an important part of the community. Replaceable as they might be, migrating to any new platform is always a few months' worth of a headache. Especially for artists, who are used to pumping out content on a nearly daily basis.

Then again, it's hardly the end of the world. Adobe is also introducing a new application that users of Photoshop Sketch and Illustrator Draw can migrate to. The application, named Fresco, is being touted as an amalgamation of the prior two. A tool that actively caters to artists and animators. Fresco's also being prepared to receive the expected swaths of users migrating from Sketch and Draw. Upon signing onto the new app with one's Adobe email ID and password, all previous projects across Sketch and Draw will be exported to Fresco, making for an easier user transition.

In some ways, the removal of Sketch and Draw, and the provision of Fresco as an alternative is a good thing. While Adobe's subscriptions do offer access to all of the numerous applications that company's created, which is a pretty good deal, many individuals take issue with those very apps. Particularly, there's a complaint of Adobe actively chucking the "less is more" adage into the bin. The app developing company has far too many products in its catalogue, many of which perform functions that could easily be incorporated into a singular app. The creation of apps such as Fresco, by removing the older iterations of Draw and Sketch, helps make the Adobe platform a bit clearer for newcomers. Hopefully this is a trend that the company carries forward with its other prevalent product listings as well.

Users that already have Photoshop Sketch and Illustrator Draw can continue to use the application even after the 19th. Adobe has, however, stated that support for both apps shall end on the 10th of January, 2022. After this, while the apps will continue to be usable, they'll no longer be supplemented with new updates, but. patches and the like. In the meantime, maybe users can elect to check out other options such as Autodesk, or even Fresco itself.
