WhatsApp, Facebook-owned app, is undoubtedly one of the most popular instant messaging apps worldwide with more than two billion users. The company has been working hard to make it more user-friendly and improve the overall experience.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will soon let users encrypt the Google Drive backup in its upcoming update. It already has allowed Android users to back up their data over Google Drive but it is not yet password protected. Though the current system of backing up data is secure but some people may not be satisfied with it. Therefore, the new feature will provide an additional security layer to protect the backup data.
"Basically the feature allows to encrypt your backup with a password, so you’re sure that nobody (neither WhatsApp nor Google) will be able to see its content.", explained WABI in a blog post.
It is not clear when the feature will be rolled out to all WhatsApp users and currently it is expected to be available for Android users only. However, it is not sure whether the iOS users will be given the backup encryption option or not.

For now, to secure Whatsapp account user can enable Two-Step verification for extra security.
